  School</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> was that kind of attachment for many of
us.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Early neighborhood ties h=
ad us
attending the same junior high schools.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nb=

</span>These environments spearheaded a friendship focus.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Our high school continued this cen=
tral base.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span><span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;</span></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>By today&#8217;s standards, Shawnee Mission was a safe=
 haven.
<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;</span>The daylight hours kept every=
one
occupied within its walls or on adjacent fields and tennis courts.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Extra curricular choices, evening =
events
and sports happenings gave us expanded arenas to play.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>The building showcased possibiliti=
es, housed
dreams and ideas.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Many of us =
chose
to attend and some did not.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span><=
/p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>When the school district split the student population,=
 the
outside world entered this treasured environment severing numerous day-to-d=
ay
encounters.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>The split was not=
 a surprise,
yet it <span class=3DGramE>caught</span> us then taught us that a larger wo=
rld
with its own rules and own guidelines awaited.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span><span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;&nbsp;</span></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>Shawnee Mission became Shawnee Mission North.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Yet dozens of friendships stayed
strong.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Many continue to this
day.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>The camaraderie, desires=
 for
our comfort and just plain good times are preserved within them.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>The building endured as have we.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>It provided us then with something=
 we
knew and regarded with trust.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span=

staff and faculty provided cooperation and assistance.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>While some of us walked away from =
the
school and its environment, hundreds stayed and formed kinships that <span
class=3DGramE>lasts</span> into today.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbs=
