Barbara, IR= 17;ve written a little “memory” for you to include in the magazine…I have been thinking about old times and this was one that always had me “buffaloed.”&nbs= p; Never did figure out how they got there first.

One of my memories of our senior year is funny. Friday was pep assembly day. I loved the pep club assemblies on Friday. It was amazing to see the bleachers filled with red-jacketed schoolmates, happy and excited for the game that night. The cheers we did were traditional= and fun to do. Every now and then= we taught the Pep Club a new cheer and that was fun, too. Remember the skits? Too funny.

I had French class after the assembly and the classroo= m was in the west building, second floor, west end of = the building. My French teacher w= as a grump and really did not like me (imagine that!) She didn’t like me wearing my squaw dress on Thursday. Did not like my being excused for class for choir or other activities. Did not like my cheerleading uniform. Such a grump!

If you remember trying to get out of the gym after pep assemblies, you will realize the problem I had getting to class on time. Sometimes we had to have a quick m= eeting for the cheerleaders before we could leave the assembly. That was a real problem! Each Friday, I’d get back to= class and EVERYONE would be sitting calmly in their seats and the teacher (I can’t remember her name, if I ever knew it) would be expounding on something like irregular verbs or vague tenses not known in English. I decided that if I would leave th= e gym by the east door, I could run along the outside of the buildings and get th= ere in time but it never happened. Almost, but not quite.

Now, as I look back on it, I can see the little smile = on the teacher’s face and I wonder if they were playing a joke on me. How had they gotten there before I= did when I ran all the way? I thi= nk they must have cheated and left the gym before the last cheer ended. Did they ever hear us say, “= So long everybody. See you at the game!”
