Cynthia Childers Dunn & Bob Dunn
Bob Dunn (SMN ’60) and Cynthia Childers Dunn (SMN ’60) have been official retirees since January, 2001.  They own a home in a Del Webb “active adult” community in north central Florida.  Being about an hour’s drive from Disney World in Orlando makes their home a frequent gathering place for two sons, two daughters-in law and seven grandchildren.

Bob and Cynthia dated “off and on” in high school.  This picture was taken at the Junior Prom in 1959.

For some reason, which neither Cynthia nor Bob can remember, this was their last date in high school.  But, they got together again twenty-five years later and “eloped” to Miami, Oklahoma to be married in 1985.

Shortly after their marriage, Bob accepted a new job and Cynthia retired from teaching in Colorado and they moved to Jefferson City, Missouri where they lived for the next fifteen plus years.  He had spent twenty years in a job that required extensive travel and was, as he puts it, “tired of living with a Boeing strapped to my butt.”  The new job was to entail only a minimal amount of travel.  That aspect of the new job turned out to have been somewhat misrepresented.  During those fifteen years, the Dunn’s traveled to over thirty states and six foreign countries.

An avid pilot with an itch to buy an airplane, Bob talked Cynthia into finishing getting her pilots license, a process she had begun many years earlier.  She went on to obtain her commercial pilot’s license with multi-engine and instrument ratings and became the company pilot for Bob’s companies.

As is so often the case, the Dunn’s find that their lives as retirees is so busy they wonder how they ever found to time to work.  In addition to spending as much time as possible, but not as much time as they would like, with grandchildren, they both remain avid golfers and travel around their community on their Segways.  Their newest hobby is cruising.

They enjoy the more relaxed pace of that form of travel and still like to "dress" for dinner now and then as in this picture from a 2009 Caribbean cruise.

They both report they are looking forward to the 50th class reunion and the Hocker Grove Junior High School mini-reunion as well.
